XCR Round 9 Burnley Race Wrap

For the penultimate race of the season the conditions were pleasant to start then the north wind kicked in but at least there was no rain.  There were so many highlights from the 3rd place by Ben Chamberlain in the half, another win for the Premier team and in the juniors five club records were broken, four second place results, a win in the men’s U18 and second in the women U14.  Thanks to all those who put their bodies on the line to run the half Marathon, we had great numbers in our open men and women. Thanks also to our two AV helpers Peter Cashin and Colin Drake.

Open Men

They did it...our Open Premier Men are Premiers, no one can beat them now after another win and the fifth in a row!  Ben Chamberlain was our first across the line, 3rd place overall, in a time of 64 minutes and 55 seconds.  Second in was Liam Cashin then Brett Ellis, Zayd Al Sayd with a dead heat between Abdi Haji Ali and Callum Drake.  Overall the numbers were very good for the half, 13 athletes and resulting in a great result also for our Div 3 finishing second and a full Div 5 team which finished 10th.  In the Masters category Alistair McDonald had a great run finishing second in the 45+, Peter Boyle was 10th in the 40+ and John Papworth was 6th in the 55+.

Juniors

There were so many great results all second places and couple of  great team results.  In the men’s U18 5km Alex Cameron – Smith was second with a time of 14 minutes and 46 seconds.   This time broke club records for both the U18 Road 5km and Jack Rayner’s U20 club record.  Jackson Wright and Aiden Muscat made up the team which won and now stands an outside chance of a premiership, with only one point separating them from Essendon.

In the women’s U18 Lucy Cleveland broke the U18 and U20 5km road record finishing the 5km in 17 minutes and 19 seconds and also second place.  In the Women’s U14 Abby Bassos was second place and with an U14 5km road club record in a time of 18 minutes and 28 seconds.  The team also did well finishing second behind Knox with Maddi Hall and Ella McDonald filling out the team.

In the Men’s U14 Ryder Dean also ran well finishing second and also with a club record in a time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds in the U14 5km road race.
