Round 8 XCR Ekiden Relays Myrniong

For the third occasion this season we were treated to real XC weather, cool with showers and a big dump of rain in the hours before making the course muddy and slippery.  Although the numbers were down we had good teams and some really solid results.  Congratulations to our Premier Men for winning again and their fourth round in a row which now puts them firmly on top of the ladder. Our Premier women had their best result of the season with a fourth place, a second place for the women Div 3 and in the juniors a second place for U18 Men and third for the U14 women.  Thanks again for all the help on the day, Ben Mudie for collecting the subs, Stu and Burkie ensuring athletes were present and correct, the Muscats for bring the tents and of course our three AV helpers, Mal Hodgart, Jodie Dunstan and Peter Cashin.

Open Men

We only had three open men’s teams this round but there were some great results.  The Premier men have more or less sealed the premiership with a fourth win in a row with an emphatic win, almost 3 minutes ahead of second place.  First out for the team was Zayd Al Sayd, putting the team into second then Matt Hussey closing the gap on Glenhuntly with our third runner Will Lewis putting us in front.  The combination of Ben Chamberlain, Abdi Al Haji and Liam Cashin then put the result beyond doubt winning in a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes.  The Div 3 also ran well finishing 5th with U20 Toby Nitschke filling in for leg 4 and having his best race of the season so far to produce the fastest 6.6km in the Div 3 ranks.  The Div 5 was 9th.

Open Women

It was a great result for all our women’s teams with the Premier team finishing fourth, its best result for the year.  In the Premier team it was Sophie McMinimee who led the team.  She handed to Nardine Bainbridge then Claire Hodgart then the two 45+ athletes, Cath Cleveland and Brigitte Sneyders.  Due to the absence of Geelong Region the Premier team will move to 6th on the ladder.  The Div 3 had a great day finishing second and their best result for the season also.  The Div 4 finished 5th .

Juniors

In the men’s U18 it was Jackson Wright leading out the first team with Aiden Muscat second and Alex Cameron – Smith kicking the tail for the team.  It was a great result for second but it was the Essendon team who won so they will remain on top of the ladder with our boys in second.  The second team of Armeet Dhaliwal, Steven Morgan and Emerson Arnold all ran well and finished in fourth place.

In the Women U14 Maddi Hall, Ella McDonald and Ava Sherratt combined to come third.
