XCR 24 Round 4 Race Wrap St Anne's Bendigo

It was a long way to drive but well worth the journey so thanks to those who came.  Numbers were well down on previous rounds and we suffer in the open men’s divisions but the open women’s and juniors teams all did well with our Premier women’s team finishing 4th, the U18 men and Women U14 were second. On the individual contributions, Lucy Cleveland was second in the Women’s U18, Alex Cameron – Smith was 3rd in the Men’s U18, Ryder Deans was 3rd in the Men’s U14 and we had two in the top ten of the Open Men’s race.

Thanks to those who brought food, Mario, Barndon and Aiden for the shelter and to Ben Hodgart with his brilliant videos of the day…very entertaining!

Open Women

It was a great result for our premier team, especially after Albert Park, with the team coming 4th.  First in for the team was Janae MacKrell who ran superbly with her best finish to date in 22nd place in a time of 32 minutes and 20 seconds.  Next in and also showing great improvement was Sophie McMinimee, only three places behind Janae, then Claire Hodgart, Ebony Dodemaide with Cath Cleveland rounding out the team.  A great effort from all, well done!   In the Div 3 we finished 6th and with only one athlete, the Div 4 was 7th.  In the Masters Categories, Cath Cleveland was 3rd and Brigitte Sneyders was 6th in the 45+ and in the short course Carolyn Huell was first in the 50+ and Janice Hodgart first in the 60+.

Open Men

There was a big drop in numbers from the men’s squad with only 12 athletes making up two full teams and one in the Div 5.  Whilst the numbers were thin, all put in a great effort and in the end we had two athletes in the top ten of the open men’s race and many other great performances.  First in for the Premier team was Luca DiConza finishing just outside the medals in 4th place with a time of 24 minutes and 41 seconds.  Next in was Zayd Al Sayd finishing in 7th place for his first top ten place.  Then Callum Drake, Nathan Pearce, Dan Velardo, with a huge PB on last year, and Peter Boyle rounded the team which finished 6th.  Again our Div 3 suffered most and was 14th and, with only one athlete, the Div 5 was 15th.

Juniors

For the teams results, it was a good bounce back from Round 3 with the Men’s U18 team and Women’s U14 team were second.  In the Men’s U18 Alex Cameron-Smith was 3rd overall then a great run from Aiden Muscat in 9th and Steven Morgan rounding out the first team.  Good numbers meant that we had a second team that finished 7th.

In the Women’s U14 the team was second with Maddi Hall finishing 8th, Ella McDonald was 10th and Ava Sherratt was 11th.

In the Women’s U18 Lucy Cleveland was second and in the Men’s U14 Ryder Deans continues to improve with a 3rd place.
