XCR 24 Round 6 Race Wrap Bundoora State Cross Country Championships

This year was one of the worst at Bundoora I can remember in terms of the weather and course conditions, it was tricky to navigate especially the last bend before the finish.  There were many places along the way that we were at risk of slipping but it could have been worse if were to stick with the usual up and over Mt Copper, well done AV for changing the course!  Overall a great set of results from our juniors with many eligible for Team Vic selection and later in the day, in the open Divisions, our Premier men had another win, the Div 3 had another good result and we had a solid set of results in the women’s divisions.  And, in the short course our women took out many top ten places with the 50+ team in first place. Thanks to all who braved the conditions especially our open women who copped the brunt of the bad weather.  Thanks also to our AV helpers Phil Cameron - Smith, Paul Wright, Daniel Dunstone and Lexi Barlow and for The Muscat for bringing the shelter.

Open Women

Numbers were down a little but we maintained good results.  In the Premier team it was Sophie McMinimee continuing to improve, finishing 24th overall in a time of 40 minutes and 40 seconds.  Second in was Ebony Dodemaide then Claire Hodgart, Cath Cleveland (3rd in the 45+) with Nardine Bainbridge finishing for the team which was 7th.  The Div 3 was 6th and a good result in the Div 4 finishing 2nd.  Congratulations to Brigitte Sneyders finishing 4th and Amanda Cauchi in 10th in the 45+ category.  In the short course it was all Western Aths taking out the 40+ and 50+ teams with 55+ Carolyn Huell wining the 6km course, Tracey Colbert 3rd, Lisa Gunn 1st in the 50+ and Janice Hodgart 3rd in the 60+.

Open Men

Another win for the Premier was the big highlight and, whilst the numbers were not that strong, we had some quality athletes so our Div 3 also scored well and we had three splash over to Div 5.  In the Premier Men it was Luca DiConza first in for the team in a time 31 minutes and 6 seconds and 5th overall.  Next in was Ben Chamberlain, Will Lewis, Matt Hussey, Nathan Pearce and the very welcome return of Cody Shanahan, rounding out the team.  This result puts the team only 3 points from Bendigo with 4 rounds to go.  Our numbers are looking very good for Wendouree so it should be a very exciting last 4 rounds!  In the Div 3 we were 4th, , another great result off the back of the Sandown second place, firming up our place in the ladder well, away from relegation.

Ladders

  • Premier – 2nd (3 points from Bendigo)
  • Div 3 – 9th
  • Div 5 – 10th
  • Div6 – 12th
  • Div 7 – 23rd
  • Open Men’s Short course – 7th
