AVSL Round 10 Wrap

AVSL Round 10 Wrap

AVSL was at Lakeside and the premium seating was up high, where a nice cool breeze and some shade was appreciated by one and all.

We finished the day in third place on 21 187, behind Wyndham T&F on 26 592 and Ballarat Harriers on 23 149.

Congratulations to all our summer athletes and coaches for finishing on top of the Division 2 ladder after 10 rounds. The ladder positions after 10 rounds were: Western Athletics 97, Bendigo Harriers 82, KSB 78, Wyndham T&F 74, South Bendigo 71, Ballarat Harriers 60, Sandringham 59, Mornington 53, Eureka 41 and Ringwood 11. We now go into the playoffs and are up against Bendigo Harriers, KSB and Wyndham T&F to see who wins the Division 2 premiership.

We will need all our qualified athletes to compete in the multiple events they are eligible for at the playoffs if we are to win the Division 2 title. Please keep the 5th of March free, so that you can compete and watch out for when entries open. We have many athletes who have qualified in shot put as one of their 2 or 3 eligible events, so you will need to enter early to avoid ending up on a wait list in field events.

We had 34 athletes line up for the day, with 16 athletes competing in 3 events and 4 athletes in 2 individual scoring events and 14 competing in 1 event. Thanks to Ben H, Carl, Emily, Sarah, Brenda, Janice, Summer, Mal H, Alan, Kaelan, Stan, Blair, Bol, Ruby, Jackson & Tom for competing in 3 or more events and, Brad, Robert, Sophie & Graham for competing in 2 individual scoring events.

Our top ten scoring athletes were: Stan 1121, Alan 1120, Bol 1097, Emily 975, Kaelan 954, Sarah 920, Robert 909, Jackson 870, Summer 814 & Ben H 796. In State Age Grading our U16 Women came 4th, Open Men 7th, U20 Women & Men 8th and U16 Men 9th.

Our U20 Women’s relay team of Soumeya, Chloe, Nicole & Nadia won (Heat & State) and scored 352 points. The Open Men’s relay team of Jackson, Bol, Ben H & Kaelan won their heat, came 7th in the State and scored 266 points. Thanks to Nicola McInerney for organising, while I lap scored the 3km races.

Thanks very much to our Club Helpers at javelin: Soumeya Biao, Michael Schaap, Stan Peska, Rachel McMinimee, Nicola McInerney, Janice & Mal Hodgart, Janae Mackrell, Jackson Glover, Stephanie Thomas, Melissa Portelli, Abigail Thomas and Alan Baldry.

If you are competing at States next weekend, make sure you ask someone to help us fulfill our Club’s duties. Looking forward to seeing you all at the AVSL Playoffs.
