AVSL 2021 Round 2 Wrap

AVSL 2021 Round 2 Wrap

Athletics is back. Big numbers at Aberfeldie across all the disciplines and the presence of Premier Clubs like Essendon, Diamond Valley, Doncaster, Box Hill and Collingwood ensured a big day and strong fields.

Once again, our numbers were very good. We had 42 athletes competing, with 11 athletes in 2 events and 13 athletes in 3 or more events. Thank-you to Ruby, Nina, Soumeya, Sarah, Amber, Ruth, Chloe, Summer H, Emily, Honour, Liz, Brenda, Janice, Ben H, Brayden, Jacob, Carl, Rajvir, Kaelan, Mal, Mafi, Alan B and Stan for competing in more than one individual event, as this gave us more points and means our athletes will be eligible for more events in the Playoffs.

A personal highlight for me was the fielding of six relay teams. It was great to see a mix of athletes from across the squads working together and enjoying themselves. I believe we have the potential to field some strong relay teams this season. The U16 Women’s team of Chloe, Summer H, Emily & Honour scored 405 points and on the day were the 3rd fastest U16 in the State. The U 20 Women’s team of Soumeya, Sarah, Amber & Ruth scored 459 points and were the fastest U20 team in the State. Our U16 Men’s team of Kaelan, Chilo, Pascal & Matthew M scored 368 points and came 5th in the State. The U20 Men’s team of Jacob, Jai, Brayden & Gyan scored 460 points and were the 2nd fastest U20 team in the State. Our Open men’s team of Ben Hodgart, Alistair McDonald, Liam McGrellis & Brandon Muscat scored 187 points and came 13th in the State. The 50+ Men’s team of Graham Shaw, Phil Dunstone, Mal Hodgart & Alan Baldry scored 140 points and came 7th in the State. The relay teams contributed 2019 valuable points to our Club.

Thank-you to Mario Muscat, Ben Hodgart, Nicola McInerney, Phil Dunstone, Leslie Carter (Lever), Nardine Bainbridge, Julie Morgan, Natalie Harris and Robyn Shield for completing Club Duties at Long Jump. Thanks to Petra Mayer and Ben Mudie for also volunteering and being on hand in case they were needed. Thank-you to Mal Hodgart, Graham Shaw, Cheryl Beveridge and Janice Hodgart for lap scoring.

We finished third behind Bendigo Harriers and Keilor St Bernards. There is a real depth of competition in Division 2, as can be seen by the different 1st and 2nd placed teams compared to Rd 1. On provisional results, after two rounds, our consistent performance puts us on 16 points with Bendigo Harriers, Sandringham is on 15 pts, KSB on 14 pts, Ballarat Harriers & Mornington on 12 pts, Eureka on 11 pts and Sth Bendigo on 10 pts. At this stage team State Age Gradings are to be confirmed.

Our top ten points scorers were: Mafii 986, Alan B 963, Emily 942, Stan 915, Jacob 914, Brayden 905, Sarah 864, Rajvir 851, Carl 837 & Liz 834.

We had some impressive results. Jade achieved about a 1 minute PB in the walk. We would love to hear if you got a PB in the comments section below. Remember to check your results with AV via the Results Hub well before 5pm on the Monday.
