AVSL 2021 Round 1 Wrap

AVSL 2021 Round 1 Wrap

Thank-you and well done to all of our athletes and coaches who braved the cold wind and set us up for a positive start to the AVSL season.

After Round 1 our Club is sitting third on the Division 2 ladder, behind Sandringham and Mornington. In Zone A our U20 Men and Women are first and our U18, U16, U14 Men & U14 Women are fourth. Our U20 Men are 2nd in the State Age Group Grading.

One simple thing we can do to improve or maintain our position is if athletes do more than one event per round. In any one round an athlete can score points for three events, as well as a relay. It also puts us in a great position if we make playoffs, as athletes will be eligible to compete in those events.

Thank-you to Alan B, Brayden, Brenda, Carl, Honour, Jacob, Janice, Jeeva, Kaelan, Liz, Mal, Mafi, Phil, Stan and Tom for competing in more than one event.

Our top ten points scorers were: Stan 1012, Alan 1010, Tom 1002, Carl 1001, Mafi 976, Honour 964, Liz 931, Rebekah 856, Janice 809 and Brenda 760.

Congratulations to Mafi on breaking two U14 Club Records with a throw of 51.37m in Hammer and 13.67m in Shot Put (beating a 21-year-old record).

Remember to check your results with AV via the Results Hub well before 5pm on the Monday.

This year the top four teams in an AVSL Division will play-off for the title. Clubs that finish 1st or 2nd in the Playoffs will be promoted to the next division.

The events at Aberfeldie are 2km & 5km walk, sprint hurdles, 100m, 400m, 1500m, steeplechase, pole vault, long jump, discus and javelin.  Next week we have the 4 x 200m relays and we would love to see several teams entered. Talk to your coaches and fellow athletes about making up a team.

Entries for Round 2 are open and close at noon on Wednesday. No on the day entries are allowed, so please register well before closing on Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing more of our members participate in the coming rounds.
