Day by day updates of the Australian Track and Field championships!

Day 1

Congratulations to Mafi, silver and PB in the U14M Shotput with a mark of 14.38m. Congratulations also to: Chilo, 2nd in his heat, 6th in the final U16M 100m aydon, 3rd in his heat U16M 100m. Brayden, 8th in heat U20M 100m. Honour, 2nd in her heat U14W 400m. Qualified for final. (3.03pm today). Lucy, 4th in her race of a timed final*. 14th overall U14W 1500m. Ethan, 3rd in his heat U20M 1500m. Qualified for final. (5.10pm today). Goodluck to Mafi, U14M Discus (2:5pm), Ethan and Honour today. *a timed final is when the two or more races are held and their results are combined rather than progressing to a final.

Day 2

Brilliant results last night at the Australian Athletics championships: πŸ₯‡U14 Discus- Mafi Haunga with a throw of 45.86 πŸ₯ˆU20 1500m- Ethan McMinimee in a close finish for second in a time of of 3:49.50 πŸ₯‰U16 4x100m relay - Jayden Nti and Chilo Idriss πŸ₯‰U20 4x100m relay - Brayden Portelli Good luck to the athletes who are competing today: Chilo (200m), Lucy and Honour (800m), Aliyah (Discus) with Liam M and Abigail doing the Steeplechase.

Day 3

Another great day of running yesterday with Liam M 4th in the U20M Steeplechase and Abigail 5th in the U20W Steeplechase, both bottom age athletes. Great runs by Honour and Lucy in their U14W 800m. Both just missed the finals. Also great running by Chilo who just missed out on qualifing for the U16M 200 metres. Well done to all. Day 4

A great day of throwing yesterday with Mafi taking the gold and Aliyah progressing through to the finals of the Open W discus with a season's best throw of 49.60m. On the track , Chilo ran in the U16M 4x200m relay for a bronze while Brayden stepped up and ran in the U20M 4x400m relay for a credible 4th. Today we have Aliyah competing in the Open W Discus (2:30), Frankleen in the U17M 100 9:30), Matt and Liam C in the Open M 1500m (4pm) andRochelle in the Open W 800m (4:30). Good luck to all.

Day 5

πŸ₯‰Another great day on the track yesterday with Frankleen winning bronze in the U17M 100m. Matt and Liam C ran solidly to finish 7 & 8th respectively in their heat (Open M 1500 m) while Rochelle finished 4th in her heat (Open W 800m). Aliyah finished 14h in the Open W discus. Today we have Xander in the U17M 110m hurdles (1:15) Jade in the U18W 5000m Walk at 20:20 Aliyah is up again in the final of the Open W Hammer (4:45)

Day 6

Yesterday we saw some great racewalking from Jade who finished 4th in her U18W 5000m and great hurdling by Xander in the U17M 110mH. He made the finals and finished a credible 8th. Aliyah finished 6th in the Open W Hammer final with a throw of 50.52m. Today we have Xander up again in the U17 400m Hurdles (9:05) and Robert in the Open M 3000m Steeplechase (1:30). Day 7

Good morning, another great day of athletics yesterday, Xander qualified for hr finals of the U17M 400m Hurdles and Robert ran a splendid Open M steeplechase to finish 14th with an 11 second PB. Today is the last day of the Championships and first up we have Aliyah in the U20W Hammer (8:30), then Xander in the U17M 400H final (9:37), followed Frankleen in the U17M Long Jump (10:30) and the U17M 200m prelims (10:45) and with Ella in the U18W 200m (11:00) Good luck to all.

Day 8

What a wonderful way to finish the National track and field championships. Aliyah, a PB of 52.08 and a Silver medal in the U20W Hammer. Xander, Silver in the U17M 400m Hurdles Frankleen, Silver in the U17 Long Jump Ella, Bronze in the U18W 200m and a Silver in the U18W 4x400m . Congratulations and thank you to all our athletes, coaches and families. Despite an interrupted lead up and limited training, and for some, injuries, you have shown tenacity and resilience which you all should be proud of. Western Athletics had 20 athletes competing in 31 events Gold medal - 2 Silver medal - 5 Bronze medal - 2 Top 10 finishes - 19 Meet Records -1 Centre Records -8 Numerous PB's and SB's We also had club representatives in the relays: Jaydon and Chilo U16M 4x100m Bronze Brayden U20M 4x100m Bronze Ella U18W 4x100m Bronze Chilo U16M 4x200m Bronze Brayden U20M 4x400m 4th Ella U18W 4x400m Silver.
