AVSL Round 8 Wrap 2024-25

On real summer’s day at Aberfeldie, with temperatures in the high twenties and very little wind, we ended the round in 7th place with a score of 25 503 points.

Our unsung heroes of the day for me were the people who stepped up to fill the 7 vacant duty spots. A big thank-you to Fleur Johnson, Mal Hodgart, Jenny Arnold, Daniel Sneyders and Louise Puopolo who helped me fill the vacancies. Thank-you to John Papworth and Tracy Colbert for being flexible with their duty timeslot and task. Thanks to Amy & Holy Gardiner, Cheryl Nelson, Ruth Ong, Maddi Hall and Alan Baldry for completing their allocated timeslot. Thanks, Mal, for helping me with the hurdles and to David Hall who came to my rescue to spot for me when I was lap scoring heat 1 of the Men’s 3km with 7 of our athletes competing. We had 15 athletes compete in the 3km & 5km.

Some of the bigger clubs had a go this round and the day’s Premier Division ladder was EAG, DIV, ESS, BOH, WEN, GHY, WES, SBE, CHI and MEN.

With the power plays included we are currently 5th, behind WEN and ahead of SBE. Of the teams below us GHY and BOH are yet to play their powerplays. GHY can overtake us if they have a reasonable Power Play. We are locked in a battle with SBE for the next two rounds and BOH may yet come out in force.

Round 9 is at Doncaster. We will need good participation by our athletes in order to keep our 5th placing.

A very warm welcome to Thomas Giallo, Toby Nitschke and Siddharth Ramasubramanian who competed in his first round of AVSL. Great to have you on board and all the best for the next two rounds.

In all we had 46 scoring athletes and they completed a total of 84 scoring events.

12 athletes did three or more scoring events, 14 athletes completed two scoring events and 20 completed one scoring event.

Thanks to these athletes who completed three individual scoring events: Alexie B, Hayley B, Tracy C, Helen P, Brenda C, Janice H, Matthew P, Ethan Y, John P, Alan B, Wayne B & Stan P.

Thanks to Isabella K, Ruth O, Lucy C, Tahnee H, Gabriella J, Abigail B, Maddi H, Amy G, Cheryl N, Daniel B, Blake B, Siddharth R, Bon M & Mal H for completing two individual scoring events.

Our top ten points scorers: Stan P 1036, Alan B 1002, Wayne 971, John P 879, Lucy C 853, Tahnee H 851, Matthew P 851, Janice H 830, Abigail B 809 and Alexie B 788.

State Age Group Ladders for this round:

Our M60+ finished in 3rdplace this round.

The 60+ M are sitting in 2nd place for the season. It’s close for 2nd and 3rd with COL leading on 29 236 pts, WES 2nd on 24 980 pts & DIV 3rd on 24 859 pts.

A mighty effort and result from our 60+M so far this season with an injury or two preventing them from breathing down COLL’s neck. Their result reflects their commitment. Time to recruit a few more 60+M over the winter and aim to the take the title next season.
